What Does Vers Mean?

Vers describes versatility between topping and bottoming in anal sex. It refers to a sexual-role preference, not personality, masculinity, femininity, or a fixed identity outside sexual context.

Vers, Top, Bottom, and Side

A top generally takes the penetrating role, while a bottom generally takes the receiving role in anal sex. Someone described as vers is comfortable with both roles; “vers top” or “vers bottom” indicates a preference for one while enjoying both.

Side is a separate term commonly used by gay men who prefer sexual activities other than anal penetration. It is not another position between top and bottom.
